Provide education, training and certification that encourage professional development in laboratory animal science.
1. Assure that education and training programs meet the needs of the research animal field.
2. Assure that education and training materials meet the needs of the research animal field.
3. Assure that the credentialing programs meet the needs of the research animal field.
Promote the advancement and dissemination of scientific knowledge relevant to laboratory animal care, health and research.
1. Develop and implement programs and services to assure a strong scientific base within AALAS and external reputation of the Association.
2. Assure high quality scientific programming.
3. Promote AALAS as the premier source of research animal science information.
4. Promote liaisons with other societies and advocacy organizations.
5. Foster research and communication to promote science-based welfare and care for laboratory animals.
6. Develop a Web-based database allowing scientists to check anecdotal reports as well as literature references on the confounding variables that can influence and/or invalidate their use of animal models.
Serve as the primary resource and advocate for humane laboratory animal science, care and welfare.
1. Develop, provide and promote resources for public outreach.
2. Develop, provide and promote educational resources for schools.
3. Develop position statements on issues related to research animal health and welfare.
4. Promote interests of AALAS to governmental agencies, legislators, and policy makers.
Collaborate with the global community to advance laboratory animal science.
1. Assimilate and address issues relative to the international laboratory animal science community.
2. Explore a global coalition for enhanced global involvement and leadership in laboratory animal science.
Promote the AALAS mission through member involvement.
1. Attract, stimulate and support a diverse membership.
2. Generate enthusiasm and opportunities for active participation.
3. Create an environment for productive networking.
4. Encourage and reward volunteerism in National AALAS activities.
5. Develop our next generation of AALAS leaders.
Ensure an effective and efficient AALAS infrastructure.
1. Renew annually the strategic plan and align the governance structure.
2. Generate and allocate resources (volunteers, physical plant, staff and finances) necessary to implement the strategic plan.
3. Provide leadership development and support to facilitate governance consistent with the strategic plan.
4. Promote synergy within the AALAS community (National, Districts, Branches & Affiliates).
5. Ensure policies and procedures are consistent with the strategic plan.
6. Coordinate an overall marketing strategy to promote AALAS products and value-added services.
7. Evaluate and develop value-added products and services to benefit AALAS Membership.
