How long should my article be?
Around 500 words or less; longer articles will be considered.
Can I submit an article that's been published elsewhere?
Only if the article isn't copyrighted. Many publications, such as newsletters, do not copyright their material. Check with the original publisher if you are unsure of the article's copyright status.
Can I include pictures?
Yes, we encourage submission of pictures. Pictures may be sent via e-mail or regular mail; do not fax or send photocopies of pictures. Digital files may be in JPEG or TIFF format. For best results, pictures should be scanned at 300 dpi. Digital photos should be at a resolution of 3 megapixels. Do not submit PowerPoint files, or embed images in a Word or Word Perfect file.
Will I get my pictures back?
Photographs and other artwork will not be returned after publication unless requested at the time of submission.
Will you edit my article?
Yes. Corrections to punctuation, grammar, and spelling will not necessarily be submitted for your approval, but you will be contacted by the editor if the reviewers decide that your article needs more extensive content revisions. You may then choose to accept the revisions as described, revise the article yourself, or work with a mentor from the Tech Talk Editorial Committee or Editorial Advisory Subcommittee to address the reviewer's concerns.
What do Tech Talk mentors do?
Upon request, mentors—members of the Tech Talk Editorial Committee and Editorial Advisory Subcommittee—help authors either by assisting in developing an idea into an article or by guiding authors through the revision of an article.
When will I hear about the status of my article?
We'll send you a letter when we receive your submission. Your article will then enter the review process, which typically takes less than 2 weeks. You will receive a letter in the mail notifying you of the editor's final decision.
Why would my article be rejected?
Articles must be of interest to the Tech Talk readership and conform to these guidelines. Articles will be accepted for publication only if the animals discussed were cared for and used humanely; this includes following proper husbandry techniques. Tech Talk reserves the right to reject any article at any time.
How is the copyright issue handled?
Copyright is transferred to AALAS once your article is accepted for publication by the Tech Talk editor, as stated in the official acceptance letter.
Can I get extra copies of the issue in which my article appears?
Yes. One copy of the issue will be mailed along with your CEU certificate. If your article has more than one author, one copy of the issue will be sent for each author. If you would like more copies, contact the AALAS office.
Will my coauthors receive CEU certificates?
Only if their names and addresses are submitted along with the article. Otherwise, a CEU certificate will be mailed to the corresponding author only.
