It started with an announcement in a church bulletin. Theresa Cunningham-Faughnan, Director in the Center for Comparative Physiology at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, took a black marker and circled a description under the “Can You Help?” column in the publication. The announcement explained that a 28-year-old male legal refugee from Uganda, Africa needed a room in a home. He spoke English and had a college degree. She wrote “What do you think?” next to the announcement and left the bulletin on the kitchen table for her family to see.
