The Ben Cohen Branch Education Fund (BCBEF) is an AALAS Branch only award designated to offset eligible expenses of an external speaker for a Branch meeting. In order to qualify for funding, Branches must meet the Branch compliance criteria, have tax exempt status, and submit a complete application including all supplemental documents. Funding cannot be awarded retroactive to the meeting.

Application 

Funding

Eligible Branches may apply for up to $500 per calendar year per Branch to offset travel, lodging and meals for an external speakers who brings a unique subject matter to a Branch meeting. Applications for funding must be submitted to the Executive Director at least 60 days prior to the meeting.

Applications must include:
  • Application form
  • Letter of support from your BOT District Trustee (email acceptable)
  • A current W-9 Form
  • A copy of IRS letter recognizing tax exempt status or the current and most recent tax filing of IRS form 990 or 990-EZ

Eligible Expenses

Eligible expenses are limited to transportation, lodging, and meals for an external speaker.

AALAS must receive credit on the meeting program that the speaker was funded via the AALAS Ben Cohen Branch Education Fund.

After the Meeting

Within 30 days of the Branch meeting, Branches receiving BCBEF funds must submit a written report about the meeting to the BOT. This report must include a summary of the meeting (such as the number of attendees and a narrative evaluation of the meeting) and an account of how funds were used. Any unused funds must be returned to the National Office with the report.
