AALAS National Meeting

Each fall since 1950, the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science has held its annual National Meeting. During the five days of the meeting, members and nonmembers come together to enjoy the workshops, lectures, poster sessions, and exhibits. The program is designed to have topics relevant to the entire membership. Exhibitors have an opportunity to interact with AALAS members from the academic community, research institutions, government organizations, and commercial companies. The AALAS National Meeting is the largest gathering in the world of professionals concerned with the production, care, and use of laboratory animals.

Spotlight Forum on Oncology

The 2022 National AALAS Meeting in Louisville, KY will feature a Spotlight Forum on oncology in laboratory animal science. The National Meeting Program Committee and 2022 AALAS President, Dr. Marc S. Hulin invite you to submit proposals for abstracts, panel discussions, seminars, and special topic lectures on oncology/cancer in laboratory animal science. Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020 and is the number 2 killer of people in the United States at a rate of 600,000 annually. Metastases are the primary cause of death from cancer. The standard therapies for cancer treatment still include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. Most of the biomedical research and the public only know about these three standard therapies of treatment for cancer. Current research has uncovered the power of implementing appropriate oncology animal models in developing new therapies to attack cancer in a novel and an innovative fashion to provide better outcomes for patients. We are seeking topics and abstracts related to managing animal care and use programs supporting oncology animal models, husbandry procedures, and practices to maintain sensitive animal models for cancer, scientific investigations into the value of animal models to develop cancer therapies, and health and welfare considerations for humane endpoints. Please consider a submission at https://aalas.abstractcentral.com.

The deadline is March 15 for topics and June 1 for abstracts.

2022 CE and RACE CE Information

AALAS has provided a form that National Meeting attendees can download and use to track their CE activities from sessions attended. This form allows you to create your own record of attendance - what sessions you attended. The form will be appropriate for use with the Technician Registry, CMAR, ACLAM, and your state veterinary boards for veterinary and veterinary technician license renewal.

2021 Record of Participation

Because each state varies, attendees should verify with their own state's veterinary board for any special requirements on CE and record-keeping.

In your CE records file, please keep a copy of your National Meeting registration confirmation in case you are chosen for an audit by your state veterinary board. Audits typically request records from one to several years prior.
