2019 Denver, Colorado - AALAS Foundation “Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” Contest

Gather up your paint brushes! The AALAS Foundation Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown contest is on!

Do you want to be part of an exciting and creatively challenging contest that’s sure to be loads of fun and will also benefit the AALAS Foundation?

Colorado is known for its amazing snowboarding and skiing! That’s why, this year, the AALAS Foundation has designed a “Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” contest and we are challenging contestants to paint/decorate a wooden 10” x 3 ½” snowboard – to be shipped to contestants upon registration and payment of entry fee.

To Enter the Contest: A $45 contest entry fee and a 2019 “AALAS Foundation Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” Contest entry form must be completed and received by the AALAS Foundation no later than August 30, 2019. Entry fees and registration may be made online via the official online registration form, or, by check, money order, or credit card.

Each decorated snowboard entered into the contest will be assigned a unique registration number by the AALAS Foundation.  All entries must be assigned into one of the following contest categories: Individual Category, Corporate Category, Branch Category or Institution / Organization Category.  Note: AALAS Foundation reserves the right to make final category selections for all entries.

All who register for the contest and pay the $45 contest registration fee will be provided a unique contest registration number, and mailed an official 10” x 3 ½ “ wooden snowboard for painting/decorating, along with specific guidelines for the contest.


Contest Guidelines

  • Each contestant is required to submit the officially approved AALAS Foundation wooden snowboard for entry into the contest.  
  • Any artistic medium may be used on an entry – paint, glue, pencil, ink, paper, staples, textiles, etc.;
  • Entries may not include animal body parts or tissue or replicas thereof.
  • Each entry must include the “AALAS Foundation Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” contest registration number assigned to it.  That number shall be displayed on the back of the snowboard. (Registration numbers are assigned by the AALAS Foundation)
  • An entry must not exceed more than 11” in height;
  • An entry must not exceed more than 4” in width;
  • An entry must not exceed more than 1/4” in depth;
  • All entries must not weight more than one pound;
  • All contest entries must be received by the AALAS Foundation at the 2019 “AALAS Foundation Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” Booth in Denver, Colorado, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. MDT on Sunday, October 13th and 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14th, 2019.
  • All entries are subject to review for approval and acceptance into the contest by the Contest Review Committee whose decisions are final. Any entry deemed to contain inappropriate and/or offensive material or content by the Contest Review Committee will be ineligible for entry into the contest and contestant’s $45 registration fee will be refunded.
  • Contestants must provide a digital photo of their entry to the AALAS Foundation by October 4, 2019, to be eligible for inclusion in the Facebook photo gallery. Email photos to foundation@aalas.org.
  • All registered entries will be on display at the AALAS Foundation Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” contest booth at the 2019 National Meeting in Denver, Colorado.

Prior to the start of the 2019 National Meeting, the public will have an opportunity to go online to judge the snowboard entries and “vote” for their favorite entry.  A “vote” is a financial donation to the AALAS Foundation.  Each “vote” requires a minimum $5.00 donation. Online contest “voting” begins Monday, September 23, 2019 and ends Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 11:00 am MDT.

Beginning Sunday, October 13, 2019, attendees of the 2019 National Meeting will be able to “vote” ($5.00 minimum “vote”/donation) on behalf of their favorite snowboard entry at the AALAS Foundation Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” contest booth at the 2019 National Meeting in Denver, Colorado. All contest “voting”/donating ends Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 11:00 am MDT.

All branches, companies, institutions, and individuals are encouraged to participate. The main goal of this lively event is to help raise funds to support the AALAS Foundation in its mission to educate the public about the importance of biomedical research and the compassionate professionals working in the field of laboratory animal science.


How to Win
  • There are four contest categories: Individual, Corporate/Company, Branch, and Institution/Association. The entry receiving the most “votes”/donations collected on its behalf, within each category, will be determined the category winner.
  • There will be four category winners – one from each category.
  • Winners of each category will be automatically entered into the live auction on Wednesday night, October 16, 2019.
  • A “Fans’ Favorite” winner will be awarded to the entry receiving the most Facebook “likes” on the AALAS Foundation’s “Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” Facebook photo gallery by 11:00 am MDT, October 16, 2019. Contestants must submit a digital photo of their entry to the AALAS Foundation by October 4, 2019 to be eligible for inclusion in the “Fan Favorite” category of the contest. Winner will be announced at Appreciation Reception to be held October 16, 2019 at AALAS National Meeting in Denver, Colorado.
  • A “Best of Show” winner will be selected by members of AALAS Leadership. Winner will be announced at Appreciation Reception to be held October 16, 2019 at AALAS National Meeting in Denver, Colorado.

Winner Selection
AALAS members, their family and friends may “vote” on behalf of the snowboard entry of their choosing. The awarding of “votes” is actually a financial donation to the AALAS Foundation. A winner from each of the four (4) categories will be selected. The entry that receives the most “votes”/donations on its behalf by the end of the contest, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 11:00 am MDT, will be deemed the first place winner of its category.

The first place winner of each category (Individual, Corporate, Branch, Institution /Organization) will be automatically entered into the live auction on Wednesday night, October 16, 2019.

Optional Entry into AALAS Foundation Silent Auction
All entrants into the contest may opt to donate their entry into the AALAS Foundation’s silent auction. (Note: By registering into this contest, entrants agree that should their entry be one of the first place category winning entries that their entry is deemed an automatic donation to the AALAS Foundation’s Live Auction.)
Entries donated to the AALAS Foundation Silent Auction will be acknowledged as a $40 donation to the AALAS Foundation

“Snowboard Freestyle Throwdown” Entry Pick Up
All entries not donated or automatically placed in the AALAS Foundation’s Silent & Live Auction must be picked up by its owner no later than 2:00 pm MDT on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. The AALAS Foundation will not be responsible for entries not picked up after this date and time.
