Order the April, May, and June Webinars

The following webinar, Rabbit Perioperative Care, will be on April 7, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm CT.

Rabbits can be challenging surgical patients, and our speaker will discuss:

  • Anesthesia and analgesia protocols
  • Common pre-operative procedures, such as intubation
  • Practical tips for anesthetic monitoring and management of post-operative complications

Registrants will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance about the challenges they face when managing rabbit surgical procedures.

The May 12 webinar, Stress and Pain in Research Reproducibility: Considering What Matters in the Vivarium, will be offered from 12-1:30 PM CT. Environmental factors and staff practices in the vivarium result in variables that can affect the welfare and physiology of lab animals and therefore alter the research studies relying on these animals. How do we achieve a balance in these variables to improve animal welfare and strengthen the science? We can start by addressing the major sources of stress to the animals. In this webinar, we will discuss variables of single vs. social housing, cold stress vs. adequate nesting, and unalleviated pain vs. analgesics and their effect on a series of tumor models in mice. We will review data from scientific literature that teach us how to reduce these variables in tumor studies for better modeling of the respective human diseases.

The following webinar, Effective and Efficient Semiannual Inspections: How to Get the Most Out of Your IACUC Inspections, will be on June 23, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm CT.

The speaker will review and discuss:

  • Practices and options for conducting semiannual inspections at large academic institutions
  • Role of the different members of the IACUC inspection team
  • Difficulties associated with the classification of inspection findings
  • Challenges associated with enacting change post-semiannual review
