TTS-004: The Technician Training Shorts series provides an opportunity to schedule a training session for staff to view a 15 to 20-minute recording and then use the active learning exercises provided to enhance the learning experience - either immediately after the presentation or later.

Animal care staff have duties that may put them at risk for compassion fatigue. Compassion Fatigue: The Cost of Caring Technician Training Short provides information for staff on ways to help recognize the signs of compassion fatigue and learn different strategies that can be used to manage it.

Staff will learn:

  1. The risk factors that lead to compassion fatigue.
  2. The signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue.
  3. Ways to cope with and manage compassion fatigue, both personally and in the workplace.

Included with the recording are two active learning exercises:

  1. Group Activity: This is an activity where staff can brainstorm self-care strategies and ways to incorporate compassion fatigue awareness in the workplace.
  2. Quiz Game: A PowerPoint presentation with quiz questions and suggestions on ways to play the game.
