WEB-073A: Despite being the most commonly used animals in biomedical research today, with their use across the globe in the millions per year, many researchers and veterinarians are unaware the needs of the mouse as an animal rather than as a model system or fuzzy test tube. As humans, we tend to vias our own ways of being and sensing, often forgetting that things beyond our perception may be affecting the animals in our care. This presentation will provide information on the biology, senses, and behavior of mice; address how housing that is convenient for humans can negatively affect mice; and offer suggestions on how to ameliorate these effects.
