Laboratory Animal Data: A Quick Reference Guide

A "must have" with important information for18 species: cat, chicken, dog, ferret, gerbil, goat, guinea pig, cynomolgus and rhesus macaques, mouse, rabbit, rat, sheep, swine, Syrian hamster, Xenopus laevis, Xenopus tropicalis, and zebrafish.

Normative data of up to 49 parameters (varying by species) includes biological, hematology, and serum chemistry data. All data sources were painstakingly evaluated. Special effort was made to collect hard-to-find information and data, such as for cynomolgous macaques, the Xenopus species, and zebrafish. The data are presented as reference values, which are valuable as starting points in assessing your own colony’s biological status. For aquatic species, optimal values for environmental factors are provided. Additional tables for each species cover sites for blood collection and routes of compound administration that include recommendations for needle sizes, maximum volume, use of sedation or anesthesia, and a terminal procedure requiring euthanasia. Other tables list the clinical signs of pain/distress and common zoonoses.
