“In Tune With Research” Contest

Start Tuning Up Your Strings & Gathering Up Your Paint Brushes! The AALAS Foundation is proud to present the exciting "In Tune With Research" contest!

Are you ready to embark on a creatively fulfilling journey that not only promises heaps of fun but also contributes to a worthy cause? Join us as we celebrate the vibrant spirit of Nashville, Tennessee, known as The Music City, by challenging participants to adorn a 14” wooden guitar. An official wooden guitar will be shipped to contestants upon registration and payment of entry fee.

To Enter the Contest

A $35 contest entry fee and a 2024 “In Tune With Research” Contest entry form must be completed and received by the AALAS Foundation no later than September 3rd, 2024. Entry fees and registration may be made online via the official online registration form, or, by check, money order, or credit card.

Checks should be made payable to the "AALAS Foundation."

Each wooden guitar entering the contest will be assigned a unique registration number by the AALAS Foundation. All entries must be assigned into one of the following contest categories: Individual Category, Corporate Category, Branch Category, or Institution / Organization Category.  Note: AALAS Foundation reserves the right to make final category selections for all entries. 

All who register for the contest and pay the $35 contest registration fee will be provided a unique contest registration number and mailed the official 14” wooden guitar for painting/decorating, along with specific guidelines for the contest.  

Contest Guidelines

  • Each contestant is required to submit the officially approved AALAS Foundation wooden guitar for entry into the contest. The official wooden guitar will be sent by AALAS Foundation to all registered contestants.
  • Any artistic medium may be used on an entry – paint, glue, pencil, ink, paper, staples, textiles, etc.
  • Entries may not include animal body parts or tissue or replicas thereof.
  • Each entry must include the AALAS Foundation “In Tune With Research” contest registration number assigned to it. That number shall be displayed on the back of the entry. (Registration numbers are assigned by AALAS Foundation)
  • An entry must not exceed more than 16” in height.
  • An entry must not exceed more than 9” in width.
  • An entry must not exceed more than 1/2” in depth – in area that sits inside the official display stand.
  • All entries MUST be able to fit and display, with no assistance, in the official contest display stand.
  • All entries must not weight more than one pound.
  • All contest entries must be received by the AALAS Foundation at the 2024 AALAS Foundation “In Tune With Research” Booth in Nashville, TN, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. MST on Sunday, November 3rd and 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CST on Monday, November 4, 2024.
  • All entries are subject to review for approval and acceptance into the contest by the Contest Review Committee whose decisions are final. Any entry deemed to contain inappropriate and/or offensive material or content by the Contest Review Committee will be ineligible for entry into the contest and contestant’s $35 registration fee will be refunded.
  • Contestants must provide a digital photo of their entry to the AALAS Foundation by October 15th, 2024, to be eligible for inclusion in the Facebook photo gallery. Email photos to foundation@aalas.org.

Before the commencement of the 2024 National Meeting, the public will have the opportunity to engage online by evaluating the entries and showing their support through "votes." Each "vote" constitutes a financial contribution to the AALAS Foundation, with a minimum donation of $5.00 per vote. The online contest "voting" period commences on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, and concludes on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. CST.

Your participation will help us spread awareness about the positive impact of biomedical research and honor the invaluable contributions of the animals we work with. We invite all branches, companies, institutions, and individuals to participate actively in this initiative. The primary objective of this event is to generate funds that will aid the AALAS Foundation in its mission to educate the public about the significance of biomedical research and the compassionate professionals dedicated to advancing the field of laboratory animal science.

How to Win

  • There are four contest categories: Individual, Corporate/Company, Branch, and Institution/Association. The entry receiving the most “votes”/donations collected on its behalf, within each category, will be deemed the category winner.
  • There will be four category winners – one from each category.
  • A “Fans’ Favorite” winner will be awarded to the entry receiving the most Facebook “likes” on the AALAS Foundation’s “In Tune With Research” Facebook photo gallery by 11:00 am CST, November 6, 2024. Contestants must submit a digital photo of their entry to the AALAS Foundation by October 15th, 2024, to be eligible for inclusion in the “Fan Favorite” category of the contest. The winner will be announced at Appreciation Reception to be held November 6, 2024, at AALAS National Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
  • A “Best of Show” winner will be selected by members of AALAS Leadership. Winner will be announced at Appreciation Reception to be held November 6, 2024 at AALAS National Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
  • All non-winning entries must be picked up at the AALAS Foundation booth at the National Meeting in Nashville, TN, no later than 2:00 pm CST, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. AALAS Foundation is not responsible for entries not picked up after that date and time.


Winner Selection

AALAS members, their family and friends may “vote” on behalf of the entry of their choosing. The awarding of “votes” is actually a financial donation to the AALAS Foundation. A winner from each of the four (4) categories will be selected. The entry that receives the most “votes”/donations on its behalf by the end of the contest, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11:00 am CST, will be deemed the first-place winner of its category.

Optional Entry into AALAS Foundation Silent Auction

All entrants into the contest may opt to donate their entry into the AALAS Foundation’s silent auction.

Entries donated to the AALAS Foundation Silent Auction will be acknowledged as a $5 donation to the AALAS Foundation
